The Falling Sand Abrasion Tester evaluates the wear resistance of materials by simulating the impact of abrasive sand particles. This test provides critical data for assessing durability in various applications, including coatings and composites.
Caltech India offers CES 579 Falling Sand Abrasion Tester. It is a popular apparatus used to measure the resistance to abrasion of paint, lacquers and other organic coatings. Abrasion results from abrasive particles falling through a guide tube and impinging the test specimen, until the substrate becomes visible. The resistance to abrasion is calculated as the abrasive loss in mass per film.
Standards: It complies with ASTM D968 standards.
