This Digital Surface Profile Gauge is a precision instrument used to measure the peak-to-valley height of a surface, primarily for assessing surface roughness after blasting or other surface preparation techniques. CES 409/S Surface Profile Gage is a handheld gauge for fast and accurate measurement. It is widely used in field of blast cleaned surface measurement.

The correct way to measure Surface Profile is as below:
- Make sure probe is 90° to substrate to ensure accurate readings and calibrate the gauge on a glass zero tile.
- To take one spot measurement, take either 5 or 10 readings within a 100mm (4”) diameter area.
- The measurement displayed is either the average peak-to-valley height or the maximum reading of the 5 or 10 readings, depending on which measurement mode you have selected.
- To establish the average surface profile of an area, record 5 spot measurements for each 1m x 1m (3ft x 3ft) area.
The Caltech CES 409 surface profile meter is available in two different models: CES 409 and CES 409/S. Surface profile gauge are supplied with a glass zero plate, calibration test foils (nominal values 178µm (7.0mils)) and a Calibration Certificate.
